Though it rates low in audience expectation but still the movie "The Deal" succeeds in keeping the audience in the theatres till the end.
The character of William Macy is a perfect show stealer, who is playing a frustrated suicidal loony producer, who has lost his entire wish for life as he has failed to bring in some good movies for a while. He has no work, but when his nephew proposes a script, he becomes desperate to make the film at any cost, even, changing the story, like a stupidest action film of Hollywood ever came on print.
However this act leads to some hilarious scenes by L.L.Cool. J playing historical figure Benjamin Disraeli, going over the buildings in intention of blowing everything up with a rifle. However his presence is not felt much in the movie, as he disappears very quickly. The story revolves also around Macy who falls in the love with the Meg Ryan, a likeable query girl, behaving like a hard to get type in the movie as usual.
He seems also perfect for Macy. Being the studio executive her decision influenced Macy including the script of absurd action. Everything is set towards progress of their relationship, but thanks to the director the ending is usual but not as usual as a wedding.
There are hilarious performances which force the audience to laugh beyond the set sequences. The dialogues are much witty ones and sharp too to fit the character of Reserved Macy. The jokes from LLCool J are especially fun to watch with. It keeps the audience rooted to their chairs with good entertainment though the karaoke sequence seemed like forced one included in the movie.
However the movie succeeded in bringing out laughter, witty humor and filling the audience with much entertainment. "The Deal" is an inspired movie from a book of same name by Peter Lefcourt, and it holds the aura of breaking free the laughter of few scenes. It is a harmless comedy movie to be enjoyed at the most. Had it been an absurd action movie as predicted, it could easily put its name in Hollywood satire list.
However it is a movie successful in keeping the audience to its chairs for ninety minutes. It was never a movie, to set with a lightning speed and gain momentum, to sweep the audience of its feet but it was just enough to carry on till the end. The story telling also was not up to the mark and to some it looks like a feature length TV commercial which was never the expectation of the audience.
